Custom home in the Sonoran Desert

A custom single-family home on the outskirts of Tucson, in Marana, AZ, built end-to-end with the Pow-R-Wall vertical ICF system. Foundation walls, above-grade walls, and stucco-ready exterior panels — one engineered envelope from grade to roofline. The build used both Contour Wall and Flat Wall panel profiles within the same home, demonstrating the system's flexibility across structural conditions on a single project.

Marana sits in the Sonoran Desert at roughly 2,000 feet of elevation. The climate is hot and arid through most of the year, with sustained daytime highs over 100°F across the long summer. Continuous R-33 insulation through the Pow-R-Wall envelope flattens the interior temperature swing that conventional desert builds fight every day — cooling load drops, HVAC equipment runs less, indoor comfort holds steady from the slab to the ceiling.

The stucco-ready exterior panel system eliminated a separate sheathing step. The exterior face of every wall panel arrived from the factory ready to receive stucco directly — no sheathing, no separate weather-resistive barrier installation, no fastener layout for an attached substrate. The finish trade started the day the bracing came off.

Building in the desert Southwest means designing for the extremes — sustained heat that conventional walls leak straight through, dry air that drives moisture stress in the wrong direction, and a finish trade (stucco) that drives every other decision in the build sequence.
